About Me

I'm a native Texan. I was born in Austin, Texas and raised in Round Rock, just north of Austin. I started competitive gymnastics when I was three years old and I was a level 9 gymnasts by the age of 13. At that point I was tired of getting injured, so I switched to competitive diving. When I was 16 I developed anorexia and struggled with that for the next five years of my life.
My diving led me to the University of Miami where I received a scholarship to compete for the school. It was a very fun time in my life. I was at the elite level of my sport, competing at national and international meets. I dove in two Olympic trials meets, one in 2008 and the other in 2012. During my college experience I was blessed to have people in my life that led me to faith in Jesus Christ. These people were full of wisdom and mentored me throughout my time in college. It was through my relationship with them that I was able to gain insight and healing from my eating disorder and negative body image. I was also able to develop a sense of self-worth and self-respect and how I want to be treated by other people, especially men in relationships.
I graduated with a bachelors in business in May 2007. The week after I graduated, my parents told me they were getting a divorce. This really shook my world. Often, there are things you don't realize you take for granted until they are gone. My parents’ marriage was one of those. In the midst of my grieving and sadness over my parents divorce, I met my future husband. Mitchell is the kindest and most understanding man I know. Not surprising that he is also a counselor. We got married in April 2008 and that next year we both felt a call to pursue a masters in counseling. After researching and visiting many schools we decided to move from Miami to Dallas to attend Dallas Theological Seminary. After 3 1/2 years of study my husband and I graduated in December 2012.
Since graduating I've been gaining experience by counseling in private practice. I've also gained life experience by becoming a parent in April 2013. We now have three children and are learning life lessons every day. I don't have all the answers; I don't have everything figured out and I don't pretend to. But I do know that life is a marathon not a sprint, and my passion is to help people sort things out in their lives through the counseling relationship.
